Are you a Maverick or an Artisan?
A Strategist or a Scholar?
The Predictive Index (PI) measures four drives: Dominance, Extraversion, Patience, and Formality in order to predict workplace behaviours.
Dominance: the drive to exert one’s influence on people, things, or events
Extraversion: the drive for social interaction with other people
Patience: the drive for consistency and stability
Formality: the drive to conform to rules and structure
Why measure drives?
Well, drives create needs in people and those needs are reflected in behaviours.
If we only observe the behaviours, we are guessing at what might be driving them. But if we measure the drives, we can predict (or at least explain) the needs and behaviours arising from those drives.
You see, behaviours can be driven by different needs, so they are oftentimes misleading.
For example, going to the same café every week may be driven by a need to keep to a routine (Patience), but it may also be driven by a need for social interaction (Extraversion). On the other hand, it may be driven by convenience, making it the fastest way to get a coffee on the way to work (Dominance).
