How many of us take a good, hard look at ourselves, to see what it is that WE'RE doing to create the results we're getting?
A lot of us wonder why we keep getting the results we get – results we’re not that happy with – and we look around us, trying to understand what’s getting in the way.
But how many of us take a good, hard look at ourselves, to see what it is that WE’RE doing to create those results?
For the last few weeks I’ve been trying to reconnect with a prospect who came through my lead channel. We’d originally spent nearly an hour and a half on the phone together talking about his business and how he was unhappy with the majority of his staff. We’d reached the point in the conversation where I asked if he’d like help with that. He said yes, but then the line went dead.
At first I thought he’d run out of power, but I’ve tried now numerous times to reconnect with him and the phone always goes unanswered.
So what’s happening here?
In a nutshell, he’s avoiding me. But rather than have the balls to say, “I’m not interested. I don’t care that 14 of my 15 staff aren’t worth re-employing,” he just doesn’t make the call.
Now, you’ve got to wonder just where else this habit of avoidance is showing up in his life. You don’t think it could be part of why his employees don’t behave the way he wants, do you? Or the reason that the person he really needs to fire is still there? You don’t suppose he could be avoiding those tough performance conversations as well, do you?
See, here’s a habit that will always get him the same result. How you do anything, is how you do everything!
I couldn’t care less if he says “no” to my help – I’m not the one whose business will suffer for it in the long term. What does interest me, though, is how people whinge and whine about the results they’re getting but don’t want to take responsibility for the part they are playing in it.
Do you have any habits like that that are holding you back? Would you like to get some insight into what drives you to behave that way?
If you’re not getting the results you want from your people, let’s take a journey into human analytics together and explore what’s going on.
P.S. Be prepared to say “no” (or “yes”) to me, though, because otherwise, we’ll both know you’ve got a habit that’s going to get in your way…until you decide to change it!
We'd love to hear from you. Please get in touch with us right away and a member of our team will get in touch with you promptly.
